Interior vs Exterior Painting: What to Know Before You Start

Whether you're refreshing a single room or repainting your entire home, understanding the differences between interior and exterior painting will help ensure great results.

Interior Painting

Interior paint needs to be durable against daily wear while maintaining a clean, attractive finish. We recommend Sherwin Williams interior paints for their excellent coverage and color selection. Key considerations include sheen level (flat for ceilings, eggshell for walls, semi-gloss for trim) and proper ventilation during application.

Exterior Painting

Exterior paint faces UV rays, rain, humidity, and temperature swings. It needs to be flexible enough to expand and contract with your home. Proper surface prep — including pressure washing, scraping, priming, and caulking — is critical for a lasting finish. In NC, the best time for exterior painting is spring and fall when temperatures are moderate.

Why Sherwin Williams?

We partner with Sherwin Williams because their products consistently deliver superior coverage, durability, and color accuracy. Their Duration and Emerald lines are particular favorites for our NC projects.
